LOVE BETWEEN A DEVIL AND A MORTAL-ROMANTIC ENCOUNTER

Today, i want to talk about a very old painting named Romantic Encounter. This piece was paint by Mihaly Zichy on 1864. It is an illustration of the devil, Lucifer and Princess Tamara, a mortal with whom he falls in love. This is based on the Mikhail Lermontov’s poem, The Demon.

The romantic encounter depicts a male devil that has fallen in love with a female mortal as they embrace and kiss while she is kneeling on her bed. Everyone who watch this painting must be getting the romantic vibe between the two of them.

As you can see, the way he looked at her, no actually he stared at her. Lovingly but at the same time it was somewhat scary. Maybe the painter wants to tell us that this is a very dangerous love. Yes because it’s between the devil and a human.

And you can see the way the woman close her eyes while giving the romantic kiss to the devil. It seems like she’s being hold captive in his love and start to have illusions of having a happy ending together with him. Well if I were her, I would also think like that because love can make you blind sometimes.

The room that they were in also kind of look a little bit messy. Look at the messy bed, the windows are open and what’s that on top of her bed. Is that a picture? It’s creepy to be honest. Maybe the painter wants to show us that this love can be romantic but creepy at the same time. Yeah why not.

And also. I noticed the way he hugged her. Like “I’m not gonna let her go no matter what happen.”  He grips her really hard. She must felt really hurts. And she also let her hand loose like I’m surrender. Do whatever you want. i’m yours..something like that.

So, in my personal opinion, this painting gives the romantic and also dangerous vibes of the forbidden love between a devil and a human princess.
